O'Laughlin's Statement Claiming That The Psychiatric Establishment Essay

O'Laughlin's statement claiming that the psychiatric establishment is self-interested and caught in a rational bind that we need to understand the human narrative that necessarily underlies all suffering. To me this statement makes a lot of sense since it is very true that the psychiatric establishment is self-interested. This means that the sole interest of the psychiatric establishment is enriching the ones who put up the establishment. They are only interested in themselves and they are in the business of giving treatment to the patients and do not care if the method they are using is approved by the one receiving the treatment or not. The establishment is caught in a rational bind whereby the mode of treatment that is used is fixed and the patients regardless of how young they are forced to go through the rational bound treatment mode. Therefore there is need to understand the human narrative that necessarily underlies all suffering so that the best mode of treatment can be prescribed and used. This will help in offering the correct treatment...

This will reduce the cases of any effects that might come along with treatment methods which could otherwise not be effective or wrong (Prairie Care, 2013).
I concur with what this person things, it also does not make sense to me why the Electronvulsive Therapy (ECT) is used for. It is quite insensible for using the ECT therapy for children who are below the age of 14 years and also 500 Australian children under the age of 5 were also treated through this therapy. This is quite inconsiderate since the children are too young to make an informed decision of whether they approve the treatment or not. The ECT therapy could have some side effects but since the children are too young to understand any of this they are taken through the therapy without fully understanding what the therapy entails (Walter, 2010).

I agree with this person that this is quite unfair for such a right to be granted to shock autistic or catatonic children so that they can be brought to the psychic…
